Plant-Centered Reading (book club)

Join us for Plant-Centered Reading, a book club held every-other month. We focus on books discussing the health benefits of a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. 

  • In July, we'll discuss “Walking with Peety” by Eric O'Grey

Description:

Eric was 150 pounds overweight, depressed, and sick. After a lifetime of failed diet attempts, and the onset of type 2 diabetes due to his weight, Eric went to a new doctor, who surprisingly prescribed a shelter dog. And that's when Eric met Peety: an overweight, middle-aged, and forgotten dog who, like Eric, had seen better days. The two adopted each other and began an incredible journey together, forming a bond of unconditional love that forever changed their lives. Over the next year, just by going on walks, playing together, and eating plant-based foods, Eric lost 150 pounds, and Peety lost 25. As a result, Eric reversed his diabetes, got off all medication, and became happy and healthy for the first time in his life-eventually reconnecting with and marrying his high school sweetheart. WALKING WITH PEETY is for anyone who is ready to make a change in his or her life, and for everyone who knows the joy, love, and hope that dogs can bring. This is more than a tale of mutual rescue. This is an epic story of friendship and strength.

Whole Food, Plant-based Potluck with special guest: David Kates

Have a recipe you know is a winner? Curious to sample other whole food, plant-based dishes? Want to get to know other vegan foodies? Well, this is the event for you!

Join us for our bi-monthly potluck. Bring your favorite dish, along with a copy of the recipe to share with the crowd. We ask that your dish adhere to the following dietary requirements:

• Must be Whole Food, Plant-Based (WFPB) 
• Little to No Processed Food
• No animal product ingredients
• Ingredients and meals without oil and low in sugar and salt

The person with the winning dish will receive an STLPCL prize. 

Please bring serving utensils for your dish. 

We’ll provide plates but please bring a fork and water bottle. 

As an additional treat, we'll hear from our special guest, David Kates. David is a librarian and journalist who is starting a family and oral history and genealogy research business, Stories Made Whole.  He relocated from Los Angeles with his wife and son last fall.  While in Los Angeles, he was a member of Vegan Toastmasters, a public-speaking group that focuses on plant-based eating.  He has been vegetarian for nearly 20 years and vegan for 7 years.  David will talk about his plant-based journey and deliver a portion of his award-winning humorous speech, "As Fake as They Make It."

Join St. Louis Plant-Centered Living as we Skype with Food for Life Instructor and YouTube star Terri Edwards of EatPlant-Based.com. Terri will be discussing her journey how she solved her joint pain, adult acne, and sleep issues by switching to a whole food, plant-based lifestyle.

We'll have FREE samples of Terri’s recipes after the presentation, in addition to a Q & A with Sandi Hemming, a registered dietitian who focuses on plant-based nutrition.

As we have seen repeatedly, plant-based nutrition has the power to change lives. We encourage you to invite someone who may have an interest in the health benefits associated with plant-based diet.
